2016 Charitable Donations
The Mountain Air Pilots Association operates in compliance with IRS Code Section 501(c)3 which requires that most funds raised be used for charitable purposes.
This code also enables most contributions to MAPA to be deductible for tax purposes by donors.
Donations were made in past years to various local charities such as Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society, Cal & Carol Peddy Memorial Foundation, and many other charities in addition to providing several $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at Mountain Heritage High School.
A total of $10,000 was donated in 2016 with $6,000 to local charities and $4,000 for four $1,000 scholarships to four graduating seniors at Mountain Heritage High School.
The charities supported and the respective amounts included $1,600 to West Yancey Volunteer Fire Squad, $2,100 to Yancey Volunteer Rescue Squad, $1,400 to Yancey County Public Library and $900 to Mountain Heritage High School Music Program.
The largest MAPA fund-raiser each year is the Airway-Fairway Golf Tournament held the third Saturday of September.
This is always generously supported by MAPA pilots and many other residents and guests of Mountain Air.
The 2016 Airway-Fairway Tournament was held on September 17.
